The Last DJ - episode 72

For once, I'm remembering to update the Livejournal as soon as a new Last DJ episode is available!

Head over to www.lastdj.com and enjoy the latest slice. There's fourteen tracks in this one (to make up for ep.71 which was a little too short). Music comes from Chicago, To My Boy, Roy C, Alphabeat and many more.

Enjoy!

The Last DJ - Show 71 (backdated)

Episode 71 of the Last DJ has been available for over a month at www.lastdj.com but once again I forgot to update the LJ to tell you this. Sorry.

The Commodores, the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, Camper Van Beethoven, Paraffin Jack Flash - these are just some of the people providing great music that you'll hear through the episode.

Now, a service note:
My promises to get the Last DJ more regular have rather failed. How often would you like episodes? Would you miss the podcast if it stopped entirely? Let me know your comments.

The Last DJ returns - show 70

Following extensive repairs to studio equipment, the seventieth episode of the Last DJ is now available at http://www.lastdj.com

On the show this time, we pay due tribute to Michael Jackson, plus there's music from Nick Lowe, Neil Sedaka, the Moody Blues, the Flirtations, and many more. There's also a new mini-feature - songs that have the same name as the group that sung them. How many can you think of? The excitement!

The sound of silence

There'll be no Last DJ or other audio productions from me for a few weeks. My mixing desk went *pop* and it'll be at least three weeks before it's fixed.

In the meantime, you can still listen to episodes 68 and 69 at the website. They get better with age, so I'm told.

Follow me (@samholloway) on Twitter for the latest.

The Last DJ - 67, plus announcements

In case you hadn't noticed, episode 67 of The Last DJ has been available for a couple of weeks now. Music from lots of people, none of whom I can remember right now. Oh, yes, Mike Oldfield, the Scaffold, Teddy Thompson and several others.

While I'm here, a few announcements. The next episode of The Last DJ should have landed last week or this week, but I've been busy and I'm about to go away for a week, so look out for it right at the end of March or start of April instead.

As well as this LiveJournal, there are two other ways you can be notified when new episodes of the podcast are made available. There's a mailing list available on the main website (this is only ever used to notify of new episodes and nothing else) and there's also a direct RSS feed of the podcast itself.

And please don't forget that you are most welcome to send in your requests, suggestions, dedications and all those sorts of things to sam at lastdj dot com. Keep them coming!

The Last DJ returns for 2009 - yes, still here, haven't forgotten about you just yet! You can find the latest show (the sixty-forth, with absence of predictable song) at http://www.lastdj.com/

Having finished off songs-with-whistling, we're now trying songs-with-lalala/nanana, although I'm not sure how far that will run - send in your suggestions and we'll see! There's also great music from Elvis Costello, George Jones, Chairmen Of The Board, and we fulfill our cross-platform obligations with a spot of Television.

Having scraped the frost off his mixing desk and gritted the turntables, the Last DJ is set for the winter. Yes, we're finally back (sorry for the delay) wit with thirteen (count them!) examples of the best in music: from Cat Power to the Kooks, via Trio and Jimmy Cliff. Also look out for a Keith Marshall double-play, and the final installment of the ever popular feature, Songs With Whistling.

So head over now to the Last DJ to listen now!

There's a new episode of the Last DJ now available at the usual website. Sorry it's been so long since the last one - I've had a busy few weeks!

To make up for it, there's a little less chat and a little more music in this edition. From CS (Cat Stevens) to CSN (Crosby, Stills and Nash) with CSS (Cansei der Ser Sexy) in between, plus a special artistic contribution from David Shrigley, there's plenty to hear. So don't miss it!

A new instalment of the Last DJ podcast is now available at the usual place (which I still have to link to, otherwise I get Shouted At).

As usual there's a great mix of music, from the Super Furry Animals, Divine Comedy, Ella Fitzgerald, Noah & The Whale, Emmylou Harris and many more. Plus features, requests and all that jazz (well, Ella's probably the only jazz this time, but you know what I mean).

Hope you enjoy it!

Howard Meets The Horse - an audio mash-up

Oooh, look, a non-Last DJ posting in my LJ! Well, why not?

I've made a little something and I thought you might enjoy it. In keeping with the topical news of Lloyds TSB + HBOS merging, I wondered what would happen if you took one of those annoying Howard-from-the-Halifax adverts and mixed it with the Lloyds TSB 'Journey' advert music.

The answer is this : http://www.samholloway.co.uk/temp/HowardMeetsTheHorse.mp3

Update : I've dubbed it onto the original Halifax advert, and you can now see that here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cwb9lAwnBA

Enjoy!
Sam

Now eligible for its free bus pass, the Last DJ reaches early retirement. But don't worry, that doesn't mean we're resting on providing you with a great selection of music! There's so much in this episode : Minnie Riperton, Elvis Costello, a country classic from Lefty Frizzell, the odd bit of whistling, two songs with the same name, and more. Hop on board - you'll love it so much that you'll stay on until the depot, and then have to walk back home again.

The Last DJ - number 59

The A59 is a fine road, winding its way from Liverpool to York, covering a wide range of landscapes in between. In a similar manner, episode 59 of the Last DJ is equally varied. From the urban sounds of Cascada, through the rolling hills of Tom T Hall, the mountains of Alanis Morrisette and even the disused radar golf balls of Madness - it's all here. And much like Little Chefs, the regular features of Same But Not The Same and songs with whistling serve as waypoints to guide you along the way.

Head over to the Last DJ to listen now.

The 51st show was made available a while ago, but it appears I've forgotten to remind you all here. Naughty me; no biscuits.

It's another great set of tunes (would you expect anything else?) by various artists who I can't recall right now, because it's a while since I actually recorded it. I think Leonard Cohen was in there, and Ian Dury. But Leona Lewis probably wasn't.

The only way you'll find it for sure is to head over to www.lastdj.com

The Last DJ - shows 47 and 48

It seems I forgot to update you on the previous show. Show 47 was released on Nov 5th, and now Show 48 is available, too. Great music from the Rubettes, the Chesterfields, Tom Jones (yes, Tom Jones!) and many more. Plus country classics, pedantic lyrics, great grammar and Mancunian bands beginning with 'S'. Oh yes - it's all here.

Both episodes are available at www.lastdj.com.

The Last DJ - show 46

There's so much music in this latest installment that the Last DJ has barely time to squeeze in those fascinating factual nuggets that you love so much. You'll hear from Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams, the Fabulous Johnny D, Ry Cooder and many more. Bad grammar songs are back, and there's even a mystery duet to identify! Head over to www.lastdj.com to listen.
